A chairperson needs to be selected by consensus. They should be looking over the bylaws and seeing if changes should or need to be made. Potential changes must be submitted to the general membership 30 days prior to they being brought up for a vote and it requires a 2/3 majority to make changes.
Suggestions would include: does the Mission Statement meet our mission? Do the duties of officers fill our needs? Our current Treasurer doesn’t want to serve as Secretary as stated in the current bylaws. Our current bylaws also state that officers are elected at the Spring Picnic but there hasn’t been a Spring Picnic in a few years. (note: Due to the fact that it has become difficult for some committees to do their work consistently with the current bylaws, this committee needs to “get on it” so we can move forward.

A chairperson needs to be selected by consensus. They should consider who would serve as officers of the association, contact those possible candidates to solicit their willingness and nominate the slate of candidates at an appropriate meeting as per the bylaws. The chairperson should also open the floor of that meeting for others to “throw their hat into the ring” for any position and allow any and all candidates a couple of minutes to express their willingness to serve. Then the chair should hold elections as per the bylaws.

A chairperson needs to be selected by consensus. This committee should solicit input from the membership and decide on programs for regular meetings as well as for special events. These plans should be consistent with the mission statement of the association and the bylaws which should be aligned with the desires of the membership. It would be best if these programs were laid out a year in advance so that presenters can be contacted in ample time for their preparation and scheduling.
