The state of Arkansas plants wildflowers at the site of any new highway construction. This program promotes pollinator habitat, beautifies our roadways, and saves labor costs on mowing. The state also makes available properties adjacent to state highways for the planting of wildflowers. Citizens can take advantage if the wildflower program by coordinating with Kayti Ewing at the environmental division and your local district permit officer. The environmental division will need to approve the seed content to insure that no invasive species are introduced and the location, to insure that the proposed space is not in use. The local permit officer will need to be informed to insure that the area is not mowed. Katyti can be reached at or (501)569-2000
